First review report of the International Advisory Board

13 December 2019

As per the Rules of Procedure and its mandate, the International Advisory Board (IAB) of SPHN has to provide a review on the progress of the initiative every two to three years. After submission of their first activity reports beginning of 2019, the project leaders of the first 15 SPHN funded projects and the representatives of the five University Hospitals, presented the advancementsof their works to the IAB during a meeting in September. The presentations and discussions provided the IAB with a broad overview on SPHN’s core activities and thereby facilitated the Board’s first review of the initiative, almost three years after its operational launch.

New online course on SPHN Data Privacy and IT Security

15 October 2019

Within the Swiss Personalized Health Network and related national initiatives, researchers use patient data (i.e. confidential human data) in their research projects. Dealing with confidential human data requires awareness of data privacy, respective laws and information security. The SPHN training on Data Privacy and IT Security explains what should be done in practice to protect the patients’ privacy when performing biomedical research on human data. For researchers and users of the SPHN/BioMedIT infrastructure this course is highly recommended. The respective exam is mandatory to use the BioMedIT infrastructure.

The BioMedIT/SPHN Data Privacy and IT Security training is now available also as online course (video tutorial and script). More information can be found on the DCC webpage.

Common templates to facilitate data and material exchange

3 June 2019

SPHN and Swiss Biobanking Platform (SBP) have worked in close collaboration to deliver Data Transfer and Use Agreement and Material Transfer Agreement templates to facilitate data and material exchange in the context of academic research projects.

In order to be able to exchange data and samples for research projects between institutions, a Data Transfer and Use Agreement (DTUA) and/or Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) are required. As part of a national harmonization effort, SPHN and SBP have, together with Swiss universities, ETH-Domain institutions and University Hospitals, developed common templates for both documents. More information can be found here and in the newsletter.
